Bogus Basin Ski Resort
Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area is a ski area in Boise County, Idaho, sixteen road miles north-northeast of the city of Boise. Bogus is operated by the Bogus Basin Recreation Association, a non-profit organization, and it operates on private and leased land in the Boise National Forest. Bogus Basin Ski Resort is mostly designed for downhill skiing and snowboarding, but the area has about 23 miles of nordic trails for cross-country skiing. There is also a Tubing Hill near Bogus Basin ski resort, just west of the main parking lot.
Bogus Basin Ski Resort currently runs 7 chair lifts – 4 high speed, and 4 magic carpets. The latest high speed lift, Morning Start, was installed in 2019.
Year round Bogus Basin is a great Idaho Travel destination. During the summer months there’s still plenty to do, there is a mountain coaster that operates most of the year and miles of mountain biking trails. The lifts even run to take bikers back to the top.
Countless kids have made their first turns at Bogus Basin. Whether it’s with their families, friends, or through one of the many affordable school outreach programs, Bogus Basin exists to serve generations of Idahoans – age 2 to 102.
SAFE WINTER DRIVING:
While Bogus Basin Road is plowed and sanded, your vehicle should be equipped with snow tires, 4-wheel/All-Wheel drive and/or traction devices such as chains or studded tires. You can help keep the road free flowing by using the slow vehicle turn-out if you have one or more cars behind you. If a car suddenly appears behind you, it is your responsibility to use the next available slow vehicle turn-out. The speed limit is 35mph and there is not passing lane. Do NOT pass cars! Try to avoid driving the road if your car is rear-wheel-drive, has bald tires, has summer tires, or is ill equipped for winter driving. You can take the shuttle if you are worried your car is not safe enough to make it up the mountain in bad weather.
If you get a quick flash of high beam headlights from behind, it is a polite request to pass. After a pass, if you get a quick flash of hazards, it means, “Thank you!”
During peak days and during extreme winter driving conditions, allot yourself extra time. Use caution if you stop to assist other vehicles. Pull over completely, turning on your flashers and use flares to warn other drivers.
Located 16 miles north of Boise, ID and 20 miles from Boise International Airport, Bogus Basin is the Treasure Valley’s affordable and accessible mountain recreation area. Carpooling is encouraged. During peak winter hours/dates, vehicles with 3+ passengers may access Bogus Basin’s priority lot. A free “Park & Ride” lot in downtown Boise is available for carpoolers during operating hours. On-mountain parking lot shuttles operate daily.
